The Town of Harrison has contracted with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office to provide our residents and guests with the finest law enforcement available.
From the CCSO website:
The office of Sheriff began in 1760, before Maine became a state and was still part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The first officer to lose his life in the line of duty was Ebenezer Parker in January of 1808. The Sheriff is an elected position that is held for a four year term and is the highest elected law enforcement official in the county.
The Sheriff is responsible for the County Jail and providing law enforcement to rural parts of the county. Even though the Sheriff's Deputies patrol 13 of the 24 towns 24 hours a day, most cities and towns have their own police departments and call on the Sheriff's deputies only if they need assistance. The Sheriff's Office works closely with other police departments throughout the county knowing crime and criminals have no borders.
The Law Enforcement Center, Community Corrections Center (formerly Pre-Release Center) and County Jail are located on County Way in Portland. County Way is directly behind the old Union Station on St. John Street. The Civil Division and Criminal Investigation Division are located in the Law Enforcement Center building. Our patrol sub-stations are located in the towns of Standish, Naples, Gray, No. Yarmouth and Harpswell.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office has over 250 dedicated and professional employees waiting to help you in any way. We are committed to working cooperatively with all of our citizens to preserve the peace, enforce the law, and provide for a caring and safe environment in the jail.
